Hellots live deep in the caves and caverns of the underground. They can be found in caves by the seashores and in mountain ranges as well. There are no female or male hellots, though some are somewhat male proportioned and some are somewhat female proportioned. Hellots range in height from the smallest being 5 ft and the tallest being about 8ft. Their heads appear as the skull of an animal, beast, or demon. This skull at times has horns or spikes, and the eye sockets have deep glowing lights in their endless depths. The skull has no hair upon it, but the back of the skull down to the neck can have hair. Along their back the flesh does not exist, exposing the points of the spine. A very long tail, mostly about 1 and one half times their height, extends from the base of the spine. The tail had no flesh upon it, and the vertebrae spines form more in the way of spikes. The body of the hellots is flesh covered and whole, but they have signs of starvation with ribs that poke out, and bones that can be seen under the flesh. Upon the tips of their fingers, the flesh appears to have receded, exposing pointed bone forming claws. This is the same upon their toes. Hellot? appear human other than these traits.
Hellots reside in dark, damp places and mainly inhabit the underground of Aztersil. They can be found in caves within mountain ranges, and along the oceans. They are great swimmers, and often hide in swamps, deep under the water as they wait for their prey to wander across their hiding place.
They are in every sense of the word, evil. Hellots will align themselves with the forces of evil, and are, at times, found in the service of necromancers. They are very sadistic creatures, who enjoy torturing their prey. They do not eat, having no real life in their forms, much like a vampire. Hellots feed from energy and emotions that induce energy. They are solitary creatures, not enjoying the company of their own kind.
When a hellot walks, the tail will normally drag the ground behind it. Because of this, they are most recognized by the dragging sound of the bone tail against the stone or earth when they approach. The hellot also will often make a long, low, wail like whistle before it attacks, to stir fear into its prey.
Their strengths lie in their abilities. They are not physically very strong, though can wield a sword with ease. They are very quick swimmers, and cannot be affected by diseases, toxins, poisons, or fire. They can survive in any temperature without difficulty, and are very cleaver and cunning.
Any and all holy items blessed with the power of a good god will have the same affect upon them as if they were seared by the white hot power of the sun. Sunlight and nearly any bright light at all is painful to them. It burns their flesh like flame, though flame itself does not harm them. Holy magics, light magics, and purity of the spirit are harmful to them.
Hellots feed from emotions and energy of the living. They feed from fear. They will scare their prey, inducing fear to overtake the prey's energy. Hellots will then attack their prey, opening their skull mouths to suck the energy and emotion from the mortal. The prey will be left as a shell, with no emotion, no energy and no thought. They will become nothing but a complete shell of emptiness. A mortal with a pure spirit, a spirit of complete innocents will not be affected by this.
They can see perfectly in the dark as well, though they have no real eyes. They can also speak. Their voices sound sickly and warped coming from the depths of the skull.
Hellots are unliving. They have no heartbeat, and no real life within them. Because of this, they are immortal until destroyed.
